Wind-bell pedlars are a seasonal poem of summer. Spreading fragrant coolness,
the lingering note of the
wind-bell remains forever in the ear. The wind-bell was introduced from
China. At first, it was prized in
upper-class society , but in Edo period it came to be regarded as an object
of refined taste among
ordinary people, for tempering the heat of summer.
